FAQs

Giving Day is Virginia Tech’s annual fundraising event, started in 2018, where Hokies come together for 24 hours to support the area that means the most to them at the university. This year’s Giving Day campaign takes place Feb. 19-20, 2025, from noon to noon Eastern Time. If it's your first Giving Day or you need a refresher, check out this recording of our Giving Day 101 virtual training session from Nov. 12, 2024.

Giving Day plays a critical role in maintaining Virginia Tech's alumni participation growth and helps foster a culture of philanthropy. In 2025, our goal is to engage 19,000 unique donors.

Ambassadors are Virginia Tech alumni, faculty, staff, students, family members, and friends who are passionate about Virginia Tech and supporting Hokies. Ambassadors are key to the success of Giving Day because they advocate for the area of their choice by doing peer-to-peer outreach. Individuals who sign up as ambassadors are assigned a unique giving link to share with their networks. Donors who give through ambassador links consistently account for a significant percentage of all Giving Day gifts.

  • Join an important tradition: This is Virginia Tech’s seventh annual Giving Day, with previous events happening in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Giving Day 2020 was postponed due to COVID-19.
  • Be a part of something big: In 2024, the university raised over $13 million from over 18,900 donors!
  • Every size of gift matters: You can make a gift of $5 or more to participate in Virginia Tech Giving Day.
  • Make your gift go further: Throughout Giving Day, you’ll see a variety of challenges. Often sponsored by fellow alumni, these are opportunities to maximize your gift’s impact by unlocking additional funds for your department or college.
  • Help all areas: Giving to your college and/or department’s annual fund allows the flexibility to help in all areas, from research and scholarships to specific student and faculty needs, and to other opportunities that advance our land-grant, service-inspired mission.

You+2 is a challenge that is exclusive to Giving Day ambassadors. When you make a gift to the area that matters most to you, and enlist two other people to make a gift through your unique ambassador link, you’ll receive a limited-edition Virginia Tech duffel bag and phone clutch slide.

Find everything you need to know on our Ambassador 101 page. In your ambassador dashboard you can set your referred page, customize your unique link, see who's made a gift through your link, and more! Login to your ambassador dashboard here.

You can sign into the ambassador dashboard at https://givingday.vt.edu/giving-day/94092/signup.

Please visit https://givingday.vt.edu/giving-day/94092/signup and select “Need to Reset your Password?”

Your ambassador link will not direct people to the early giving site. People will be able to make a gift through your link between noon on Feb. 19 and noon on Feb. 20 ET.

You can find your ambassador link by logging into your ambassador dashboard. You can also create a personalized, shorter ambassador link under “Change short URL.”

You will receive a confirmation email from the Virginia Tech Giving Day Team prompting you to complete your account set up. Sometimes this email goes to a spam folder so be sure to check there if you can’t find it! If you have signed up to be an amabassador for previous Giving Days, you will need to sign up again this year -- signups do not roll over from year to year.

Yes. Because each Giving Day is different, you'll need to sign up again this year even if you've been an Ambassador in previous Giving Days. Please use the sign-up form on this year's Giving Day page at givingday.vt.edu.

We encourage you to sign up early to make sure you have access to all of the ambassador resources, but you can sign up at any point before Giving Day ends at noon Feb. 20.

You can see who has made a gift by logging in to the ambassador dashboard. Both will be on the right side of the dashboard.

Sorry, we aren't able to attribute gifts not made through an ambassador account to an ambassador link.

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to track how many other ambassadors have signed up using your link.

Please email Breanna Sullivan at brennasullivan@vt.edu with any additional questions.

Check out the ambassador training video (coming soon!) for details on the ambassador program and tools available to help ambassadors communicate with their networks.
